Jaggery is one of the most important sweeteners in Indian cuisine. An integral part of our country’s cuisine. Gingerbread is a must have, for any occasion, sweet and savory. Although jaggery made from sugarcane has been very popular for thousands of years, palm jaggery made from palm trees now occupies an equal place in the daily diet.

Ginger is made from sugar cane juice. Ginger is considered healthier than refined sugar. Both forms of jaggery are widely used in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan. This natural sweetener contains good moisture along with a mixture of sucrose, inverted sugars and other residues such as wood ash, proteins, bagasse fiber.

Ginger is mentioned in ancient Ayurvedic texts. Regular consumption of purified ginger reduces phlegm and acts as a diuretic.

Unrefined jaggery on the other hand acts as a natural blood purifier, increasing strength and aphrodisiac. Jaggery flushes out toxins and balances bile bugs. Ayurvedic practitioners strongly recommend the use of a small piece of old jaggery in the daily diet in the morning and evening – it helps to promote digestion, cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, increase heart function and ward off anemia.

Jaggery is popularly known as “nest”. It is a pure, healthy, unrefined form of sugar that contains the natural properties of the minerals and vitamins produced from sugarcane. Ginger is used as a healthy sweetener. It is available in solid, liquid and powder form.

Ginger produces heat and provides instant energy to the human body. It prevents constipation due to its laxative properties and activates digestive enzymes.

According to Ayurveda, eating jaggery daily after a meal improves digestion due to its warmth. Eating jaggery can also help in weight loss by preventing water retention in the body due to the presence of potassium. Helps to strengthen bones and blood circulation in children.
