Amritakada Have you ever heard of this name. This plant is found everywhere in the crop fields of the village and is considered as a weed. But this plant has many health benefits. This Amritakada is also known as Kanavajjalai in Tamil and Kanchara in Hindi. It is a small plant with beautiful purple flowers. Although it is considered a harmful weed in many parts of the world, it has amazing health benefits and medicinal uses.

This plant can be easily found in the fields if you look closely. The leaves are rounded and resemble small banana shoots, hence it is called Kanavalai in Tamil. The botanical name of this plant is Camelina bengalensis and its common name is the wandering Jewish weed.

This plant is also known as Kandrukutty Pull in Tamil, which means grass for calves. This plant is a favorite food for calves. Another interesting thing about this plant is that it naturally increases milk production in cows. These days it is painful to inject chemicals into cows to increase milk production but in the past this straw was mostly applied to cows born with calves.

This wonderful little plant can be used to treat skin diseases, fever, bruises and boils.

The 3 main health benefits of Camelina bengalensis are:

1. Camelina bengalensis poultice:

The leaves of this plant are excellent in treating external wounds, especially sores on the bed. It can also be used to treat wounds, pimples, boils and prickly heat. To use, rub the leaves and coat the affected area.

2. Camelina bengalensis for fever:

Boiling the leaves with cumin and pepper is a good home remedy for fever. For prevention, take 150 ml of water with 6 to 7 fresh leaves and 1/2 tsp cumin and pepper. Leave the leaves to boil and strain it. It provides relief by drinking it once a day during fevers

3. Camelina bengalensis for malignant diseases:

This plant can be cooked with a little soybean and eaten like regular celery to increase strength and energy.
