Although the use of a spoonful of melted castor oil daily as a general health aid is now obsolete, alternative health stores still sell foul-tasting liquid as a laxative. The Food and Drug Administration classifies castor oil as “generally safe and effective constipation”.

What researchers do not understand, however, is that its anti-inflammatory properties help in the prevention of arthritis by reducing pain and inflammation.

Castor seed oil is considered to be beneficial for skin health as it contains some fatty acids. Regular application of castor seed oil improves skin tone. Massaging castor oil along with olive or coconut oil promotes hair growth.
