What happens when an MRI scan is taken? How MRI Scanning Is Taken – Our Health

MRI scan. Doctors recommend that you have this scan when you have a serious illness or if you think there is something wrong with your body. What exactly is this MRI scan? Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the body is a powerful magnetic field used to create detailed images of the inside of your body, using radio waves and a computer. This scan can help diagnose or monitor treatment for various conditions in the chest, abdomen and pelvis.

If you are pregnant, you can use a body MRI to monitor whether your baby is safe. The scan is performed lying on a table in the center of a large machine-like device. Your doctor may prescribe this scan for any health problems, recent surgeries or allergies and when you are likely to be pregnant. The magnetic field is not harmful, but it can cause some medical devices in the body to malfunction.

There is no risk to orthopedic implants, but you should definitely tell the technician if there is any accidental equipment or metal in your body.

Guidelines about eating and drinking before your test vary between facilities. If you are not told by your doctor, take your regular medication as usual.

Leave loose jewelry and metal items at home and wear loose, comfortable clothing. There doctors can ask you to leave our clothes and wear a hospital gown. This is because the metal in our clothing, such as zips and buttons, can melt with that magnetic force and stick to shit. If you have claustrophobia or anxiety, you can ask your doctor for a mild sedative before the test.
